As National Fair Housing Month comes to a close, it’s important to reflect not only on how far we’ve come—but on the work that still remains.
Fair housing has always been about access—ensuring that individuals and families have the opportunity to secure a place to call home.
But as I often remind my clients and community:
Access is just the beginning.
The real question is—what happens next?
Beyond Access: The Importance of Sustainability
Homeownership is one of the most powerful tools for building wealth. But without the right knowledge and preparation, that opportunity can be lost just as quickly as it was gained.
Fair housing is not only about:
✔ Getting into a home
It’s also about:
✔ Keeping that home
✔ Protecting that asset
✔ Passing it on with clarity
This is where education becomes essential.
A Powerful Conversation: Generational Wealth in Action
Just yesterday, I had the privilege of being part of the CBC Business Mixer & Symposium, where we gathered to discuss:
✨ Building
✨ Maintaining
✨ Passing on generational wealth
The room was filled with professionals, community members, and families all seeking one thing—understanding.
We talked about real-life challenges:
- Navigating probate
- Protecting inherited property
- Understanding estate planning
- Avoiding common legal and financial pitfalls
What stood out most was this:
People don’t lack motivation—they often lack access to the right information.
Education is the Bridge
Fair housing gave many families the opportunity to own property.
But education is what ensures that ownership turns into legacy.
When families understand:
- How probate works
- How to structure ownership
- How to plan ahead
They move from uncertainty to confidence.
From reaction to preparation.
From ownership to wealth preservation.
Protecting What Matters Most
In my work with probate and inherited property, I’ve seen firsthand how quickly things can become complicated when planning isn’t in place.
Homes that were meant to be passed down become tied up in legal processes.
Families face stress during already emotional times.
Opportunities for generational wealth are unintentionally lost.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
Moving Forward with Intention
As we close out Fair Housing Month, I encourage you to think beyond access.
Ask yourself:
- Do I have a plan for my property?
- Does my family understand my wishes?
- Have I taken steps to protect what I’ve built?
These are not just financial questions—they are legacy questions.
Final Thoughts
Fair housing opened doors.
Now it’s up to us to ensure those doors lead to something lasting.
Every conversation about estate planning…
Every step taken to understand probate…
Every decision made to protect property…
That is how generational wealth is built—and preserved.
The conversation doesn’t end with April.
It continues in our homes, our communities, and the choices we make every day.
